At You/ser, we‘re redesigning the reading experience for dyslexic readers with accessibility, interaction, and transparency in mind.
Our books are crafted to cater to unique reading styles so everyone can enjoy the immersive worlds within our pages.
The Mission
You/ser plans to achieve this, not by throwing out the existing playbook, but by gleaning what we can from it. Traditional rules of typography often lead to more difficulty for Dyslexics, such as: making letters flow together, or using fonts that make the eye travel down the page quicker. But when taken in inverse, we can use these rules to learn how to let letters stand on their own; how we can help slow down the eye; and how to not let our reader jump all about the page.
Every You/ser book will include an Introduction Chapter explaining the goals of the product and how we hope to support our reader. Our books are not intended to replace tutoring or other educational services. What we do aim to do is put more resources on the market for our audience:
For students who have been bullied or made to feel shame about their dyslexia, they most likely have an incorrect understanding of their diagnosis, heavily surrounded by misconceptions. Once a student understands their situation better, there is a positive correlation to increased confidence and feelings towards reading and their education potential. The goal of this chapter is to properly inform the reader about what they are experiencing in their reading journey, so that they may better reap the benefits of what we are providing them on these subsequent pages. Some topics of this chapter include:
The Science of Reading
What Dyslexia Looks Like
How Our Product Works
The Three Pillars of our Design Methodology

Accessibility & Legibility
Following our new typography style guide which takes care to include rules for typeface, leading, kerning, margins, page size, color and contrast, and more!

Transparency
What is going on inside your head? Research has shown that a better understanding of one’s diagnosis can help to stop the stigma surrounding incorrect assumptions of learning disabilities. Each You/ser Book contains an introduction chapter to learn how your brain uniquely digests information.

Interaction
You/ser books include activity based and multisensory learning. Instead of one block of continuous reading, our chapters are broken up into different activities such as, Act it Out!, Decoding, and Practice Reading Aloud.
